Hunger Games Makeup Inspo!

Vanessa, Lulu, Ruthie, Jess, and I in our Hunger Games styles!

So last week at my school, Paul Mitchell, we had a Hunger Games inspired fashion show. The lovely Sydney Faye (in the first photo with me) did my makeup! When she was finished, I looked in the mirror and honestly didn't even recognize myself! She's so incredibly talented. It was quite the process (took at least an hour for all of this makeup), but so totally worth it! What do you all think?

Hallelujah! It has actually cooled off enough here in Fresno that we're not sweating our asses off when shooting outside (it's under 100 degrees.. This is huge). Always shooting on Mondays at the church where Kuppajoe is held, I swear. So, um, I styled my fringe differently, and it kind of makes my hair look longer than it is, so hooray for that? I just want it to grow out already! Also, apparently my feet have gotten bigger again, because when I was first sent these Dolce Vitas, they were way too big on me. Now they fit just fine. This excites me as these are my favorite pair of sandals EVER. Also, these sunglasses. Someone just left them sitting on the bar at Kuppajoe a few weeks ago. I let them sit there all night to see if the owner would claim them. No one did, so I claimed them for myself. Love!
I also went to the chiropractor yesterday and got beat up again. My shoulders have been terribly crooked for YEARS. So, (it will be a hell of a long process) my chiropractor is slowly trying to train my right shoulder to stay up where it's supposed to be. This could take who knows how long because it's been trained to sit way lower than it's supposed to over the years. At least it's finally being attended to. It's caused me so many back and neck problems, which is no good when you're working as a hairstylist. But other than that, I've been relaxing and enjoying my three day weekend! It's back to the grind tomorrow.

Hope you've all started off your week grand!

Cat Shirts, Short Hair, & The Radiance Effect

Pants; H&M
Top; c/o The Radiance Effect (thanks again Corey!)
Boots; Kohl's
Turquoise choker/rings; Vintage

First off.. I really, really, REALLY miss my longer, healthy hair. PLEASE GROW FAST!!! I mean, I know I didn't have much of a choice, as I gave myself a chemical cut, and I know me rocking short hair is nothing out of the norm, but.. I really do miss having a bit of length on the sides. Sigh. Now I wait (not so) patiently for it to grow out again.
Secondly, I must thank my good friend Corey Martin, musician and frontman extraordinaire of the band The Radiance Effect, for giving me this t-shirt! If you know me, you know I love cats. I did DIY the shirt a bit, and cut off the sleeves and collar to make it more of a muscle tank. Be sure to check out The Radiance Effect, and you can download their new album for free here.
Corey is actually launching a new band, Storm Circus, on September 1st with other members of  The Radiance Effect, so be sure to be on the lookout for that!

Cara Delevigne for Russh Magazine

How bad ass is Cara Delevigne in this editorial for Russh Magazine?! I think I may have a new favorite model and new girl crush. The vamp vibe she gives off in the editorial is superb!

Pastel Locks & Pastel Lips

Top; Forever 21
Shorts; Urban Outfitters

Just a real quick mini update here.. MY HAIR IS FINALLY LAVENDER!! Only took me how long to be content with the color of my hair since I went lighter (which was quite a process, let me tell you). Oh, the things cosmetology school does to you.

Speaking of, sometimes I question why I've decided to get into this industry. I'm always afraid of being perceived as one of those shallow, gossipy bitches. Actually, the whole industry is pretty vain if you really think about it. Hell, this whole blogging thing can be perceived as pretty damn vain as well. Always just rambling on about the shit I'm wearing. Why? What's the point?

I've done a lot of thinking about it, and there's only two real reasons to validate any of this, really. First off, the whole beauty/fashion/style thing.. It's my form of creativity, an art of sorts. It's a way I can express myself and portray my creativity (and I can promise you there's more creativity and intelligence to me than just how I portray myself). I've never wanted to be perceived as one of those girls who's all looks and no brains, because that's not me at all. My second reason for validating this. Promoting and spreading the word of up and coming artists and designers, those who hand craft everything they sell themselves. It's such a personal form of art, and I love being able to support those who have a passion for what they're doing, all by their own hands. There's more to this than the shit I clothe my body with every day, and the color of my hair and the way I style it, that I can promise you.

High Voltage

High Voltage Shorts (vintage reconstructed orange tab Levi's); c/o De Epoca
Crochet dress worn as top; Urban Outfitters
Lace bralette; Forever 21
Boots; Kohl's
Abalone necklace; gift
Turquoise earrings; Vintage

FINALLY I've gotten around to shooting in these gorgeous vintage orange tab reworked Levi's from De Epoca Vintage! The lovely Jessika from De Epoca so kindly gifted me these shorts when I went down to San Diego to visit her. I tried them on, and they fit PERFECTLY. I am so incredibly stoked on them. She studded and sewed on the gorgeous dip dyed fringe herself. I had been eyeballing them on their website for quite awhile, so when she told me I could pick any piece from the site that I wanted, these were the first things I grabbed. Vintage perfection.
Also, how amazing is this abalone necklace?! My parents picked out this beauty for me while they were spending time in Monterey. They know me so well. Such a beautiful piece. Also, I must thank my grandmother for handing down her entire turquoise collection to me. These earrings are just a small bit of the magic.
I actually wore this outfit the other weekend at Fresno's Catacomb Party, but never got the chance to photograph it before, and afterwards I was just a sweaty gross mess. Also, I'm sure you've noticed I got my hair cut! I really didn't have much of an option, I had a bit of a mishap.. But disregard that, I actually LOVE how my friend & classmate, Evy, cut it. It was actually pretty unusual for me to even try to grow out my hair, as I've kept it really short most of my life. Back to my roots I suppose, eh?

Hope you all are having a great week!
